Open Classroom – CPA in Action KS2
The school implemented CPA across school about 3 years ago and this has shown a significant impact on children’s understanding. Prior to this, concrete and pictorial resources were not used regularly in upper KS2 but they are now used through successfully in all year groups. Find out how the school use CPA to scaffold learning and to also extend reasoning skills in Year 6.

Open Classroom – Lessons Learnt from Shanghai
Ester has just returned from two weeks in Shanghai observing maths teaching in Shanghai schools. Ester’s lesson with her Year 5 class will demonstrate how she has changed her lesson design and structure to reflect the effective practice she observed in Shanghai – particularly how she takes the children together as a class on their learning journey.

Open Classroom – Providing Opportunities for all Children to Access ‘Depth’
The school adopted the mastery approach in 2017-18 and, after developing the school’s timetable, adopted a Same Day Intervention system from September this year. The school have been focussing on developing reasoning and questioning in order for children to achieve a greater depth of understanding. There is an opportunity to see this ‘teaching for depth’ in both Year 4 and Year 6.
