NCP20-15: Secondary Teaching for Mastery Embedding and Sustaining Work Groups

A project for departments who have participated in Development Work Groups.

The Work Group is designed for schools that have either participated in the Teaching for Mastery Development Work Groups or the Mastery Specialist Programme. While the Mastery Advocates and Specialists from these departments will be significant members of the Work Group, it is important to stress that the whole department is part of this professional learning community. It is envisaged that the subject leader and other members of the department will also contribute to the Work Group activity.

The focus will be for each individual department to continue working on their development plans as well as sharing and critiquing them with a group of schools in a professional learning community. The Work Group will provide the opportunity for a number of departments to network and share practice together. This might include discussions on lesson design and collaborative planning, transition from KS2 to KS3, seeing teaching practice in action or continuing to develop professional learning.

4 half days throughout the year.

Participants will:

  • cultivate a deep understanding of the principles and pedagogies of mastery
  • understand the leadership and management skills required to promote and develop a teaching for mastery approach
  • understand how to develop a coherent and connected curriculum which promotes teaching for mastery
  • produce a development plan and professional development programme for the department
  • develop support for the department through CPD and collaborative working practices.

What is the cost?

The Secondary Teaching for Mastery Embedding and Sustaining Work Groups project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
